The Household Cyclopedia - Here is a link to a book that was published in 1881, called The Household Cyclopedia. You can read it online, or download it as either a PDF or TXT file. It is 813 pages of information on just about anything you're interested in. It tells how to make your own matches, inks, plates used to take photographs, metallurgy, agriculture, tanning, pottery, medicine (including amputations), cooking, fishing, you name it!
John C. Grabil Collection - The 188 photographs taken between 1887 and 1892 and sent by John C.H. Grabill to the Library of Congress. Grabill's sepia-toned images capture the frontier of South Dakota and Wyoming and document its effects on the area's indigenous communities.
